THE COURSE

We’re halfway into our tasting menu, so for day six it’s time for our Fish Course! This fish has been caught out in the dark depths of the ocean on a deep sea trawler, which only barely made it back to shore. Naturally, this course is Black Salt by Heretic Parfum. TASTING NOTES FROM THE CHEF

“My most vivid experiences of the ocean have always been at night. There is something intoxicating about a coastline that is abandoned, overcast, and possibly haunted. Black Salt speaks to my love for fragrances that feel atmospheric and alive, perfumes that make you aware of the environment breathing around you. This scent reflects my fascination with the ocean not as a postcard fantasy but as a vast and mysterious entity that reveals its secrets only when the sun is gone.

Black Salt, while not a traditional gourmand, brings its own nocturnal culinary moment to the table. The top chord opens with scorched lime, bright and bitter, as if a citrus rind has been pressed too close to the flame. That burnt green spark slices through the dense marine air and ushers in a savory undercurrent reminiscent of dark ocean broth infused with minerals, kelp, and salt-soaked driftwood. This scent is a sensory tasting of the coastline itself, a midnight menu served at the water’s edge where the flavors are sharp, briny, smoky, and strangely seductive.“

FLAVOUR PROFILE

The ocean is a graveyard. As long as it has existed, it has swallowed ships whole, devoured the lost and the damned, and sung lullabies of ruin in its ceaseless tide. Those who stand at its edge know it is not really blue, it is black – a fathomless chasm, glistening obsidian under a waning moon. As the last traces of daylight dissolve into the horizon, the true denizens of Black Salt Beach make their way to the shore – the goths. They move like silhouettes against the phosphorescent tide, their feet sinking into the black volcanic sand. Black Salt is a fragrance for those who prefer their coastlines windswept and slightly haunted – the scent of shipwrecked letters and fog horns heard from unmarked shores. Wear it when you want to be remembered… vaguely, and with a shiver.
